Medicine is a challenging, exciting and dynamic field. The training required in gaining accreditation and recognition in this rewarding career is a rigorous, decade long journey that begins immediately after high school. The competitiveness of medicine demands perseverance and tenacity from the candidate in order to see them through their journey from end to end. The acceptance criteria for admission are stringent and demonstrate a level of rigor that mimics the intensity one can expect in their training. The consortium of Australian universities that provide undergraduate admission into medicine rely on three key success factors to gauge a candidate’s aptitude and competency: their ATAR, their The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) ranking and their interview performance. These factors do not exist in isolation; they complement one another and, together, they help to provide universities with valuable insight into a candidate’s potential and their ability to successfully navigate their way through an intensive course.
Golden Key Medicine Pathway
Golden Key’s Medicine Pathway Preparatory Course (MPPC) is an intensive year long program aimed at readying aspiring candidates for their entry into undergraduate medicine. The program is delivered through small class sizes, typically groups of 4 to 5 students, to ensure that each student deserves the close support they need to excel. Unlike existing UCAT preparation products, MPPC encompasses more than just the UCAT exam. The course is delivered across two phases:
1. Phase One: The first phase runs from January to July and is designed to reinforce the candidate’s critical thinking aptitude and logical / analytical problem-solving prowess – a skill required for the UCAT and for problem solving in general. The course covers problem solving methodologies and logical reasoning techniques that are widely applicable to problems with deterministic and probabilistic outcomes.
2. Phase Two: The second phase runs from 1 September to 31 December. It is an intensive engagement aimed at equipping candidates with the skills required to effectively navigate the interview process for undergraduate and postgraduate medicine. Our interview coaching is a targeted training regime that seeks to enhance the candidate’s communication skills as well as their ability to improvise and empathise under live conditions.
